3 Foods to Boost Brain Health

As people get older one of the things of utmost concern is forgetfulness and deterioration of the mind.  There are certain foods that should be consumed now to keep the brain healthy and vibrant throughout those precious golden years.

Omega -3 Fatty Acids – Healthy fat helps to improve memory, mood and slows cognitive decline. The brain uses ketones as fuel which is produced in the liver by converting fat to ketones when there isn’t enough glucose present as in the case of low carb diets, fasting or strenuous exercise.   Sources include salmon, sardines, walnuts, flaxseed and avocados.

Leafy Greens – Green vegetables contain many nutrients that are beneficial to the development of our bodies including the brain.  These nutrients help to create new nerve cells in the brain and protect against degeneration.   Some of these leafy greens include kale, broccoli and spinach.

Berries – These wonderful, colorful fruit such as strawberries and blueberries help to improve memory, concentration and contain powerful antioxidants.

“If you can control your mind then you can control what happens in your life. Good healthy diet and waking up early are 2 things that allow one to focus.”

"Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young. The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young."
